12 favorite midcentury bathroom stories from 2018

Many people, myself included, believe that renovating a bathroom is the toughest job of all. So much function to cram into a small space — with so many expensive “live with it the rest of your life” decisions like tile choices and where to put the plumbing. So, I do a lot of stories seeking out products for remodeling and renovating midcentury bathrooms. And, readers (thank you! thank you, all!) send in lots of projects to showcase how they put everything together. Readers are doing a great job — case in point: Liz (above), whose bathroom generated three separate stories, all of which made my list o’ favorites for the year. Let’s take a look >>

Some of my favorite midcentury bathroom stories in 2018:

Liz and Dave’s bathroom remodel is all that: Hello, salt ‘n pepper wall tile, I luv u Genius Liz & Dave also had a custom etched shower door made — yes, they showed us it’s possible Graham and Monika did a deco bathroom remodel. Tile work: amazing.
Here’s a new place to find new-old-stock — including colored bathtubs Props #3 to Liz and Dave: I am in adoration of these starburst cabinet knobs, now made new I bartered away my precious revolving toilet paper holder WITH ash tray too, with my friend Ellen. We made a video — a World of Tile find, sigh!
Vintage Kohler Habitat spotted in the wild. Oh my, this things is amazeballs.  Carolyn’s Cinderella tub came with the original shower curtains and rod — so we can see how that was done. Oh and did I mention, this bathroom is everything. Don’t change a thing: Laura’s 1957 bathroom is FULL of pattern. I love every complicated millimeter!

Readers were into Daltile Aqua Glow this year. Drew & Amy’s bathroom is beautifully done!

room got a refresh — new floors, lighting, salvaged medicine cabinet — and she stencilled “wallpaper.” This bathroom is ready to go for another 60 years!
Lynn turned her new-build home’s bathroom into a retro flashback pink poodle potty.  I love how she used wallpaper fragments in this project — quite genius!
